Understanding JSS

What Junior Secondary (Grade 7–9) Actually Means

Junior Secondary is the second stage of Kenya's Competency-Based Curriculum, following Primary (Grade 1–6) and leading into Senior School (Grade 10–12). It's where learners begin to explore broader subject choices and pathway options ahead of Grade 9 placement into secondary school.

Broader learning areas

JSS learners at Bethania Academy cover core subjects — Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Religious Education — alongside optional and pre-technical learning areas.

Guided pathway exposure

Learners are introduced to CBC's career pathway thinking (STEM, Arts & Sports Science, Social Sciences) with guidance from teachers who know each child individually.

Assessment & placement readiness

Consistent internal assessment throughout Grade 7-9 prepares learners for the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Grade 9 secondary school placement.
